Eating light to lose weight?

How many times have we not heard that eating light products helps you lose weight? Is that really the case? Let's start by knowing what a light product is.

A light product is a product that has 30% less fat and sugar. So far, so good, right? If they reduce fat and sugar, they have fewer calories. The answer is: Yes, but there are other things to take into account.

If we really want to lose weight, we need to know which foods we can and cannot eat. Just because it's light doesn't mean it's very low in calories. For example:

  • A regular fresh cheese is lower in calories than a light semi-cured cheese.
  • It will also depend on whether we accompany it with white bread or whole wheat bread. Whole wheat bread, being rich in fiber, will help reduce and slow down the absorption of fats, so our body will not accumulate as many calories.
  • The amount we eat, if you eat twice as much as you would of the regular one because it's light, you will provide the same or more calories to the body.
  • We must also take into account the type of sugars it contains, whether they are natural or synthetic. Studies are still being conducted linking artificial sweeteners to diseases such as cancer and metabolic diseases, but for now there is nothing conclusive, so my recommendation is to replace everything that can be replaced with natural sweeteners.

How to reduce calories?

It is easier than it seems, although at first it will seem like a mountain to us, once we get used to it it will be easy.

  • Eat more fruits and vegetables, these are lower in calories and by containing fiber they will help so that the absorption of fats and carbohydrates (sugars) is lower. In addition, they are satiating, they help reduce the feeling of hunger.
  • Eat more slowly and calmly, chewing well. This will make digestion less heavy and give the stomach time to tell the brain that you are full. Keep in mind that your stomach takes 10 minutes to tell the brain that it is full.
  • Eat low-calorie foods for dinner especially at night, something light does not mean eating little. If we get hungry at midnight, the fridge binge can be worse.
  • Look carefully at what I buy, avoiding "cravings", even the light ones.
  • Get help from a dietitian who teaches you how to eat (not to be confused with them putting you on a diet) and/or take natural supplements to help lose weight.

The recommendation from naturopathy is to eat foods as unprocessed as possible, eat more fresh foods and if they are organic even better, especially fruits and vegetables, whole grains and seeds and their derivatives...
